Scuttlebutt - January 25

January 25, 2023
Spent the last week in San Antonio, TX rehearsing and performing with YOSA , Youth Orchestras of San Antonio, and their brilliant conductor, Troy Peters . This was my 3rd opportunity to perform with YOSA in the last 8 years and if you didn't see how young they were, you would be sure you were listening to a professional orchestra!

We played the brand new electric violin concerto that they co-commissioned from world-renown composer Roberto Sierra , which is not easy, btw, (for any of us!) and which they knocked out of the park. Huge gratitude for their months of hard work preparing it and for the visionary leadership of Maestro Peters and the entire YOSA organization. If you are a patron of the arts, consider making a contribution ! There are few worthier causes!

My guest on the new episode of the  For the Greater Groove Podcast  is violinist and educator Jesús Florido . We dig into his thoughts about the role of strings in groove-based music and how he brings Latin grooves to young string players around the world.
