Hey friends! The Scuttlebutt is back and it’s better than ever!

For my new friends, the Scuttlebutt is my “monthly” newsletter which I send out 3 or 4 times a year, haha. I let it go almost completely dormant during the pandemic. There wasn’t a whole lot of breaking news to talk about, but behind the scenes a lot of work was happening on a few new projects which are finally ready.

The plan is to keep these Scuttlebutts short (except for this special, information-filled first edition!) and to make it weekly, with a quick preview of the upcoming podcast guest or random shots and vids from the road/studio.

First, I have a new podcast called For the Greater Groove: The Future of Strings. You can find it and subscribe on your favorite podcast app, such as Apple Podcasts.

For the Greater Groove: The Future of Strings is a collection of chats and jams with some of the leaders in the progressive string playing community. The focus is on grooving and playing rhythm strings, like rhythm guitar. Grooving is the crucial entry point into our popular musical culture and something virtually ignored in traditional classical training.

The podcast is published every other Tuesday morning. There are already 11 episodes up and ready for binge listening.

Each show includes a "Groove Hacker" segment, in which we take a groove from a recording and recreate it on strings; a Groove Topic/Question for discussion; and a game called "Not My Gig", which is a 3 question trivia quiz on a subject I’m hoping my guest knows nothing about. Look for video previews and collabs with my guests on my social media below.

I also started a Facebook group related to the podcast also called For the Greater Groove, which is a community for players and fans to geek out about chopping, grooving and new things going on in the progressive string world.

The other new project is The Strum Bowing Groove Academy. This is my new set of online courses based on my Strum Bowing method. It’s on the Teachable.com platform and consists of 4 online courses, from the $10 Pro Tips mini-course to the full 60-lesson Groovemaster Bundle for $1599. For all ages and styles, early intermediate to advanced playing levels.

I also did a total redesign of both my tracysilverman.com and strumbowing.com websites.

Next week I’ll give you a quick preview of my next guest on the podcast, Martha Mooke. We had a great chat about odd-meter grooves, as you do, and then I quizzed the leader of The Scorchio Quartet about...Scorched Earth, the video game. Hilarity ensues.

As always, I’d love to hear from you--you can just hit reply or comment/message me on socials below.

And if you get more than one copy of this email--we're still working out the bugs with a new email service as well--please let me know and we'll fix it. Sorry and thanks!

Stay in touch and groove on!
